33 Daily Habits of Successful People That You Don’t Do

Look, you have your own life and you do your own thing. That’s great.

So maybe you don’t think you need to see what others do because you’re your own person.

Awesome. Awesome.

However, successful people don’t follow that same belief.

In fact, they are constantly on the lookout for ways to improve and the best way to do that is by observing other people.

That isn’t the start of this list so consider that one a freebie.

There is a simple belief that you should follow if you want to maintain your current life.

Just continue to do what you’re already doing.

However, if you want more (time, money, sleep, opportunities, love, whatever) then you probably have to change some things and it can be hard to make changes if you don’t know what to change.

I wasn’t able to create successful businesses until I stopped pretending that the way I imagined was actually working. Instead, I simply observed what other successful entrepreneurs were doing and then I did the same thing.

I didn’t copy their businesses, but I did copy their strategies and it paid off.

Now I’m always on the lookout to see how I can squeeze out a bit more from life.

I don’t try to overdo it, but I know I’m nowhere near reaching my maximum yet.

How do I know that?

Because I see what others are achieving and I know I can achieve similar things. That means I need to continue to observe others to get an idea of what they do.

That’s why I’ve put together a list of things that I’ve seen successful people do so I can have a reminder of the things that I need to constantly work on.

Daily Habits of Successful People

It’s important to note that simply understanding these things doesn’t make you better or help you achieve what you want. It’s always about the actions that you take.

If you can’t take action then reading a list of habits isn’t going to change anything.

You need to learn how to apply these habits in your life so that you do them almost subconsciously.

1. Read Books

If you aren’t sure what a book is then you don’t want to be here.

For some reason, people have forgotten the amount of knowledge that can be found in books.

I try to read 2-3 books a week. If you think that is insane, it’s really not. Nobody is going to quiz you on a book that you read after you read it.

It’s pretty easy to get an idea of the book’s message by skimming it or doing some “speed reading”.

I love to have my Kindle around with me when I can because it provides me with a very specific purpose.

Trying to browse the Internet on a Kindle is a huge pain in the ass. The Kindle is great at one thing and that is reading books so it allows me to focus on a single task.

If I don’t have my Kindle and I find myself with some downtime (waiting on something) I open the Kindle app on my phone and get to reading.

I find that the biggest problem people have with reading books is making time to read books.

If you can do that, you’ll be surprised by how many books you can get through in a year.

If you’re a professional in an industry, I think it’s important to stay abreast on things by reading different people. It’s very easy to get trapped in your bubble and not realize what you’re missing.

2. Keep a Daily Journal

This may come as surprise to you but it’s impossible to remember everything.

It’s even hard to mentally keep track of the progress you’re making with something without writing it down.

Journaling is something that everybody should do no matter what their goals are in life.

Because there are so many different ways to journal, you can find a method that is applicable to what you want to do.

Journaling helps me to stay on track with my goals and I’ve found that whenever I go through a period of not journaling, I completely go off track with things.

It’s like how you make a New Years resolution but totally forget about it until August and by then you feel it’s too late to try it.

3. Exercise

I should probably make this the top thing and I’m sure you can point out a lot of unhealthy people that are successful.

However, it’s been proven over and over and over again that exercise is great for your mind.

It’s also a great way to relieve stress if that’s something that is bogging you down.

Now, I’m not saying you need to hit the gym and go full Ironman on people, but doing 30 minutes of working out daily can do wonders for both your physical and mental state.

4. Implement a Growth Mindset

It’s almost impossible to be successful with a fixed mindset.

One of the qualities of successful people is their ability to want to try new things and not let “failure” prevent them from trying.

Having a growth mindset can be the difference between starting a business and working for your shitty boss for another 3 years.

It’s the difference between going to bed and being happy with what you did today versus waking up and wishing you could finally do the things that you want.

It completely changed how I approach anything new in my life.

5. Surround Yourself With Positive People

There is about a 1% chance that I would be successful in creating a business without my wife.

She has always been the one encouraging me to keep trying and helping to keep the faith in myself when I sometimes wanted to give up.

Whatever you do in life, you’ll have enough people on the outside trying to shit on you and put you down. You can’t stop that.

However, you can surround yourself with people that will continuously pick you up when you need it.

Sometimes you might have to be that person for yourself, but everything becomes easier when you surround yourself with people that support and encourage you.

6. Listen

Everybody is quick to be an expert or prove that they’re right.

There really is no value in it.

However, there is a ton of value in listening.

Like reading a book, you can pick up so much insight just by listening to others.

Problem-solving becomes so much easier when you listen.

Building relationships become so much easier when you listen.

Hm, it seems like almost everything in life is easier when you take the time to listen.

7. Have a Why

In my course, Hero Branding, one of the first things that I talk about is coming up with a Why.

Having a Why is important because it helps to keep you emotionally engaged on a task.

You know how people always has how do you find motivation or how do you stay motivated?

Well, a lot of successful people will tell you that motivation doesn’t matter. You just go out and do it.

But I’ve found that having a Why is a great way to keep motivated because it emotionally keeps me engaged.

So how does a Why work?

Well, it’s not the easiest thing to come up with.

Let’s try to use an example.

Let’s say you want to lose weight.

Most people that want to lose weight start with a What.

What do they want to do?

  • Look great
  • Fit in that dress
  • Be happy looking at themselves in the mirror

Now, these are good reasons to want to lose weight but these are all things that you can put on pause. When you see that cake you can go on and eat it all because you can continue with that What tomorrow or next week.

Let’s try this again with a Why.

Why do they want to lose weight?

  • Because they believe that their health is holding them back from achieving their full potential
  • Because they believe that happiness can be found in spending 40 more years with their family

I could keep going with this but these are good examples.

Now, when this person sees the cake and they think of their Why, which is more important to them? How can you be emotionally attached to a Why and do the opposite action?

If you really believe that your health is holding you back from achieving your full potential then you know full well eating that cake is going to stall that out. In fact, it can show that you value the cake more than you value what you say you believe in.

If you’re at a wedding, eat cake. Don’t be that person.

The point is, when you’re trying to stick with something, you need a North Star to guide you. You just need to remind yourself of your Why and you’ll see how powerful it is.

It’s that good and that important.

8. Try to Stay Organized

Out of all of the things on this list, this is the hardest thing for me.

I just don’t have that gene that makes me want to keep things organized.

It’s not like I want things to be messy. I hate mess.

But I can work around it if I need to.

My wife is the complete opposite. She’s able to think of things 10 years in the future simply because she stays organized. Because she’s organized she doesn’t have to think about the present.

The present is already taken care of.

If she needs to work on a task she doesn’t have to hesitate because she knows where everything is.

Thankfully, almost everything I do is digital so I don’t have to look very far for things.

However, there are days where I’ll wake up and sit down and simply have no idea what I’m supposed to do because things are all over the place.

And if my office is a mess? I’m screwed.

I’ll try and focus on work stuff, but there is this part of my brain always focused on the mess around me.

When you’re organized, it allows your brain to work on the things that you want it to work on.

9. Notice the Details

One of the reasons why it’s important to come up with a Why is because it will allow you to focus on the details as you move forward. The Why is the North Star.

When you have that, you no longer stop and ask what you’re doing. You know what you’re doing and you know Why you’re doing.

Now you get to focus on the details.

Focusing on the details will allow you to find what things you need to optimize. It will allow you to get the most out of yourself.

Isn’t that what we all want?
